Roberta Cannon was born and raised on Cape Cod. She is a registered nurse with a varied background that includes pediatrics, maternal child health, hospice, and case management.
Roberta developed a passion for writing when she wrote about her experience with breast cancer in 2000. She has been a local reporter and freelance writer since then writing for publications like the Falmouth and Mashpee Enterprise newspapers, MD News and Primetime Magazine. She currently writes a column for the Mashpee Enterprise, Then and Now, about life on Cape Cod in the 1950’s and 1960’s. One of her most rewarding experiences is co-leading writing groups for those who have had cancer.
When she is not writing, Roberta enjoys reading, gardening and the view of a saltwater river across from her home. She has two adult children and a sun loving Boston Terrier.
Past honorees of the Compass of Hope Gala, and others associated with the fundraiser for the American Cancer Society, gathered in Hyannis recently to meet this year’s guests of honor – medical honoree Molly Sullivan, MD, and community honorees, the Pendergast family. They will be officially recognized at the Compass of Hope Gala on Oct. 13 at the Oyster Harbors Club in Osterville.
